As one of more than 300,000 nurses in Canada, I believe:
- Access to health care should be based on need, not on ability to pay.
- The public’s interest is best served by our publicly funded, not-for-profit health system.
- Innovative and proven solutions to the access and sustainability challenges facing our health system lie within reforms to the current system.
Every day, nurses work with individuals, families and communities to advance health for all Canadians. As a nurse, I am a trusted health professional, and these are the actions I want you and your colleagues to take:
- Put a moratorium on for-profit expansion in the health system.
- Expand publicly funded, not-for-profit care so that it includes pharmacare and home care.
- Respect and support enforcement of the Canada Health Act.
